This quirky romantic comedy examines how long-time friends can become lovers. Naomi Simon, speech pathologist-in-training, is brilliant, but immature due to a singular problem: she constantly sabotages herself the moment she gets a good thing going. After doling out unintended comical suffering on her patients and getting kicked out of graduate school by failing to produce a thesis, Naomi realizes she’s got to take charge of her life. Thank goodness she’s got a great long-time friend in Alex, who helps her get back into school by inspiring her with a visionary thesis project. The sole subject of her research, Charlie, is a wild freshman with a respiratory disorder that often lands him in the hospital. Naomi soon finds herself romantically torn between the two boys and again in danger of dashing her career ambitions.
